Mayrhofen

I have now skied for 2 days since I got hurt 2.5 weeks ago – and I suck! Im trying to do the right thing and just ski around and do safe-tricks, but nothing feels safe right now. I´ve got a whole new setup; new skis, new clothes, inserts in my boots (so my banged up heel gets more support) and new mittens.

I´m not complaining about new stuff but everything just feels weird and now, because of the mittens, I also have to relearn “all” my grabs… I bought mittens to force myself into doing 4 finger grabs instead of 2 finger grabs.

Anyways… Im hanging out here in Mayrhofen with Nikolaj Jungersen and we are trying to get a few shots for RAD films next movie Double Up. We are just skiing the park here and thing are coming along slowly. The park here is really good and a lap only takes about 3 minutes so it wears me out pretty fast since I have just spend over 2 weeks in the bed healing my heel and knee. Im tired and confused so I´m going to cut this update short and post a few photos…

we need to get up earlier tomorrow!

Nikolaj is stoked - even when the cue is long...

Now you know what im gonna look like on the hill for the next couple of weeks

I hate the Austrian kitchen...

but I love my indoor tanning-spot!

later HJ PS: I dont know why the pictures have been turned, but I cant be asked to fix it right now.

Catching up: Avoriaz pt. 2

The worst part about having a blog is trying to write about things that happend days ago and when you dont get around to do it, the blog DIES because you stop writing anything at all.

So here is the deal – I have been in Mayrhofen, Austria for the last couple of days and I have yet to find proper internet… The Avoriaz update is hanging over my head, and now I´m kinda over it…

So Im going to go down easy-street on this one and post a bunch of links where you can find information about the whole thing. All the privat stuff that went down over the course of the week I would have kept to myself anyways, and since all my electronics didnt co-operate during my stay in Avoriaz, it wouldnt have satisfied even the most loyal of readers… so there.

DM live update

Here is the official video from the danish comps…

I was also in the national danish news (which was pretty funny to see), and on the national danish sports site.

(If you want to translate any of it, you go here)

Oh and if you live under a rock (or outside Denmark) and haven´t checked out the february issue of Euroman yet, you really should. (check page 104, wohoo)

Thats if for the Avoriaz update.

Now vanish bad consciousness, VANISH.

Catching up: Avoriaz

Its has been a while now, and a lot has happened since the last time I updated the blog.

If you werent able to figure out the point of my last post, ill let you know I got 2nd place the danish rail session in Avoriaz. I qualified first and screwed up in the finals, like I always do. I was obviously pretty bummed on that…

2 days later, while all the danish guys were going bananas in the half-pipe, I entered some random Russian slopestyle competition just so I could ride the otherwise close park. I got 3rd in that comp (by some weird judging decisions).

Now before I get into the DM slopestyle comp and that whole thing let me clear up why I haven´t been updating my blog during the DM week… I have three pretty good reasons why, you see.

First off my computer “broke down”. when I tried to turn it on one morning it wasn´t able to find the hard drive – this got me super bummed and basically got me out of blogging mode.

(my computer magically started working again a couple of days ago – Im really happy I im not forced to buy a new one right now, since the next wave of macbooks should be right around the corner!)

The Second reason is that I forgot to buy a universal power-outlet converter for my electronics – I currently cant charge the battery for my photo camera so I dont have too many fresh pictures.

The Third reason is the lack of proper internet in Avoriaz – nothing ever works there!

OKAY so - Avoriaz, Danish Nationals, slopestyle.

The slopestyle went pretty good. In contrast to last year, we actually got to practice on the course this year which helped a lot on the level of riding. I was really happy to see so many guys who threw 7´s and even some sw 7´s…

Im over writing long posts with lots of text… ill continue later.

Hello

Soooo, Hey… Its been a couple of days since the lasts time I was on here… over the course of the last couple of days truly feels like a year!

Right now im sitting in a small apartment in Avoriaz, France. Im here to compete at the Danish Freeski Champoinships which are starting tomorrow night with a Big Air competition.

Inside info: The  Big Air has turned into a heads-up RAIL SESSION because  they dont have enough snow for a 25 meter jump in downtown Avoriaz… (there is not enough snow in the world to make a 25 meter kicker in the town of Avoriaz).

So heads-up rail session tomorrow… I signed up today, but to be honest I am not sure if I am actually competing. Here is why – I think a heads-up competition on rails are kinda pointless since I feel like the level of riding will have to be brought way down to be safe enough for a heads-up. There is no way you (I) can ever be as safe on rails as on jumps on harder tricks…

Next comp i am entering will be “DM” slopestyle on thursday.

In 3 of the last 4 Danish Champion slopestyle (ever since i started skiing park) i´ve gotten 2nd place at this event. As I have gotten better at park skiing the importance of DM slopestyle as gradually become more insignificant, but this year I really want to win – not the that makes any real difference, I just really WANT TO WIN.

You know what, I actually dont have too high hopes for this one/this year either.

The jumps that were supposed to be 18-22 meters are actually 10 meters, and the park all-around is just crazy. Tons of features and really steap. Its the same for everyone though, so it´ll probably be all good – its just a little disappointing to see the park here when everything you hear is that it is really good. I dont think it is, sorry.

Ill upload a POV form the park tomorrow, so you can see what the park looks like…

till then

Today, just after writing my last post I was told that we had to move to an other room. It took a while to move all our stuff and when I finally got ready to go skiing it was around 11 o´clock – way later then I had planned for.

the following happened between 11.10 and 11.15

FML – stress! from HJ Brandt on Vimeo.

The busses go every half an hour, but at the point where I missed the buss I was too over it to go skiing + I got a pretty important phone call just after getting back to the room.

I was gonna make a “day in the life/day on the hill” video by myself, but unfortunately that is gonna have to wait.

Today has been all about hanging out in bed trying to stay entertained and eating pizza. YES

Last day of skiing tomorrow before going back over the atlantic on tuesday morning. Weather is supposed to be good – I cant wait!
