Cool kid

This kid is fucking awesome!

He is standing in the middle of a downtown New York apple store, on one of the many in-store computers – and he doesn´t give a fuck what you think..!

He has posted over a dozen videos – check them out at http://www.youtube.com/user/nicholifavs

Good night!

Priceless

Haven’t been into blogging lately – but I have a couple of things I want to share, starting with one post today…

My dad sendt me this picture today… he took it 2 days ago, out the living room WINDOW of our house back home in Nuuk.

whale out the window

This picture alone cranked my missing-greenland-meter up from  about a 2 to  an 8!

Do you have a view like this out your window..?

First edit… ever

My good friend and NatureIsMyBitch poster-boy, Michael Damgaard,  just uploaded an old edit we made a couple of years ago – before he got sponsored and when I had just gotten my first free gear. Good times…

It was filmed just before christmas (2006 I think?) on one afternoon, not later then 2-3 o’clock pm – and look at the light, Greenland is awesome. This is still one of my favorite edits that we’ve made.

Passion Pit

I wasn’t going to, but now I’m gonna… one more music post, and then I’m gonna stop pretending I’m a music blogger…

Two words. Passion Pit… These guys are soo good you wouldn’t believe it if I told you – so there is only one thing you can do. Give them a listen.

I guess the music they make is “dreamy indie pop” or something like that… I don’t care, it’s awesome.

I have been listening to these guys for a while now, but wanted to keep them to myself – yes, that’s how selfish I am… nah, I just wanted to make an edit with one of their songs before everyone knew about them, but after today I couldn’t hold it back any longer. Passion Pit saved my day today, and you should have the opportunity to let them save your day… some day…

here’s a playlist to start you off… the download, google, eventual buy or whatever, I will leave up to you. Enjoy.

Oh, and be sure to listen the this music with either headphones or good speakers…

It’s been a good day.

Norwegian kids…

I showed these clips to my brother today, so I though, why not post them here…

2 of the kids in these edits (Felix usterud, 14 and Mikkel Jøraanstad, 15) are some of the best freeskier kids in norway (and the world)…

How To Be A Pro

This really isn’t anything I can say too much about – since I’m not a pro.

But I wanted to share this because alot of youngsters really want to get sponsored, and alot of times they don’t understand why some or their peers are sponsored when they, themselves are better skiers…

I just copied this from freeskier.com, so head over there for the original article and some more photos.

Mike Douglas gave this speech at the 2009 Jib-Academy Finals in mammoth:

Ski because you love it.

Ski sponsorship is a business!
Nobody is getting rich being a pro skier and everyone is here because they are passionate about the sport! Remember, you have to sell skis in order to have a marketing budget!

It’s a Job and you have to work at it!
Competitions, filming, blogs, testing, PR, it’s all part of the job! Stickers on skis and helmets –make sure they are your sponsors and they aren’t covering up your skis. At the end of the year you have to look at what you did and make sure you provided value for your money.

Be an original!
Copycats never get ahead.
Copying other sports just makes us look like wannabes!
JF Cusson, Eric Pollard, Seth Morrison, Anthony Boronowski and John Symms are just some examples of individuals in our sport.

Work with companies you like.
Bullshitting sucks and people can see through it. Be authentic.
Telling the truth will get you much farther in the long run.

Communicate with your sponsors
Unless you are winning all the big comps, it’s really hard to keep up with what you might be doing.
Send updates to your sponsors.

Work with your sponsors partners
The industry is too small to have everyone doing there own thing.
We need to work together to achieve greatness.

Evolve or die
Your career may change many times.
Me: old school freeskier – mogul skier – coach – jibber- backcountry freestyler – big mtn skier.

Embrace social media
You need to be on Facebook.
You need to be communicating with your fans.
You need to be involved with your sponsors web objectives.

Respect always
Be professional.
Think before you act.
The team manager that you don’t like now might become your greatest friend at new company.

Many thanks to Mike Douglas for this very important talk. It was great to hear all the questions coming from the kids here at Jib Academy. Many realized that being a pro skier isn’t just about getting shots and skiing 24-7.

I wanna end this post with saying

“Skiing, snowboarding, skating and pretty much every other sport is about having FUN, if you do it because you wanna get super good or get sponsored, you are in it for the wrong reasons, and chances are you will never make it – Sponsorship is a privilege, but it’s kinda like a job too!”

Lazy…

I’ll make “a end of season” post one of these days, since my winter season is officially over…

I am really lazy these days, so it wont be right now.

But I wanna share this video though. I have been meaning to post it for like 2 months, but never got to it… anyways here it is!
