Been hanging out in Greenland pt. 1

Hey yo!

Okay, so the blog kinda died after I left the US – whoops, that wasnt supposed to happen – but since it did I will have to write one of those long ass posts that feels like homework. Here we go.

First things first, when I arrived in Denmark I got picked up by some family I hadnt seen in a long time so it felt really good to catch up, sleep in and hang out with everyone.

After a couple of heavily jet-lagged days in Denmark I jumped on a plane from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq. Kangerlussuaq is always the first place you land when coming in from outside Greenland. Its a short 4 hour flight but I had to pay 1700 dkk to bring my skis with me, my screen was broken, the service onboard wasnt anything to write home about AND I got a nosebleed, so as you can probably imagine, I wasnt very psyched about Air Greenland. haha.

I didnt get a picture of either the cabin crew or my nosebleed, so you are going to have to settle with this shot of my broken screen.

After 3 hours at the Kangerlussuaq airport – which is an old American military base from WW2 – I got on my next flight, going home to Nuuk!

Nuuk is located at the beginning of the biggest fjord-system in the world, so coming in by plane is always crazy beautiful and it really made me feel like coming home!

Straight after coming home I spend 8-10 hours a day on the local ski hill. I didnt ski, I just hung out and helped with organizing and judging The Greenlandic Freeski and Snowboard Championships. Even thought we ran into a few problems the competition was a great success with over 50 competitors boys and girls at the age of 9 to 28, from 4-5 different towns, and the level and attitude especially from the younger guys was awesome to see.

The buttom part of the slopestyle course.

The Course consisted of a:

small jump

down-rail

down-flat-down box

down box

flat box or flat-down box

Fun little course on a slope that was a bit too steep and everything was hand- shaped/build, but it worked out good!

You can find results and other stuff  @ http://snowball.gl/

I know it wasnt much but that was my easter-break, and thats it for today – more to come tomorrow.
